Customer Reviews

I was skeptical if I should get this over LG 29UM67 since I couldn't find any single review of this monitor. I could see one unboxing video of this and some short videos but there are no real reviews here in Amazon.Anyway, I've been constantly looking at this monitor especially with its fluctuating price. I bought this at a time before Thanksgiving and the lowest price I saw was $313.65 (free shipping). That's not the price I bought it. I bought it at a higher price because I was looking at a dependable seller. Unfortunately, Amazon isn't selling this. I picked IPC Store since it is the first seller in the list to have Amazon return policy. It's better safe than sorry. The other sellers have a different return policy. And this seller delivers very fast. After 3 days, I got it. Well, I missed the UPS delivery, but it's really fast.So this came in a big box that is a bit heavy. There is no more outer packaging. That is it. Packing is very nice and you know the monitor is safe during shipping. It came with a power cord (no brick power adapter), a display port cable, (which I have no use for), and a USB cable (regular to square, blue). The USB cable is like those that came with printers. The square end goes to the monitor. You cannot use this USB cable to show video. It is just for extending your computer USB port. It's like having 3 more USB ports (5V rating) located on the right side of the monitor (if you're facing the monitor). There are also some documents, the 4 screws, and CD included in the box.Ports:1 DVI (white)1 display port2 HDMI1 audio IN1 headphone OUT3 USBI like the stand. It's heavy. The square base is a heavy plate with a pole attached to it. To lock the extendable pole to it, there's a screw at the bottom. There's no need for a screwdriver. It's very easy to twist. The other end of the pole attaches to the back of the monitor. There are 2 pegs on top that locks the pole in place. You will need a screwdriver to screw in the 4 screws at the back. Then you're all set. By the way, you will need to remove the locking pin at the pole. That prevents the pole from extending. You need to use some kind of pliers to pull it out.Even without an HDMI cable plugged in, you can turn it on to see if it's working. Plug in the power cable at the back. Next to the power port is the power switch. Once you switch it on, you need to press the white button rocker in front below the LG logo. Without pressing that button rocker makes you think the monitor is not working at all. Note that because there's no video signal coming in, the monitor will go into power-saving mode and will shut off.I have an HP pavilion that is 5 years old. I plugged this monitor in. I had to play with the display settings in Windows 10 to extend the display to this monitor or to make this monitor as the only display. Voila! It automatically stretched the display to the full screen. There are no black bars. The volume isn't something you will write about. It's just right. It's only rated 5W, from the specification. I find it loud enough for my needs since I am always in front of it. I think the speaker comes out from the top, where you will see vents all the way to the upper sides. Volume adjustment is from your computer. Now, if you use this as a family TV in a living room, you will need a better speaker system. As you can see, you can tilt this a bit up at an angle. You can swivel this. You can adjust the height. You can rotate this vertically (why would you do that?). See specs for actual measurements. One of the reasons I picked this over the UM version is the adjustable height and the extra USB ports. As for the display, I'm not a color expert but I like the color tone. There is a good contrast. Also, this monitor is very bright at 300. I had to put it down at 10% at the control. Note that you cannot adjust the brightness at the computer. I tried it and there wasn't any effect. If you are a pixel peeper, you need to be really close to the screen to see it.I'm not a gamer and I have no issue with the response time. This does not have the fancy freesync from the UM monitor.I installed the driver, true color, dual control and split screen software directly from the LG website. The box came with an installation CD. I'm not sure if that is updated or not so I just went directly to the site. Unfortunately, they don't work. Maybe because my computer is very old. I'll check again once I get my new computer. As for the weight of this monitor, it's not light. It doesn't seem too heavy at all. You may need a sturdy table for this, too.Note that this is an IPS monitor. Luckily, there are no backlight bleeding or IPS glow. The build date was Sept 2015. It's made in China. All in all, I like this monitor. I mainly use this for productivity purposes. I'm now able to open up 4 different browsers and still have more space left for other windows.Update: 09/24/2016So far, this monitor is still awesome! I still have no issues with it. It's working as expected. This was a upgrade from an my Asus VH242H TFT 23.6" monitor, it's a great improvement. I have had this monitor for about a month now. When I first hooked this up to my PC, I thought I had a DOA unit, no lights on the screen at all, or anywhere on the monitor (LED is off by default). It took a little while to figure out that if the monitor does not sense a signal at any video ports it will power off in just a few seconds, without having anything displayed on the screen. I first used the DP cable (which does come with the monitor) and there was no sign of life, then I tried my HDMI cable and it came up. For some reason it was not auto sensing the signal from my video card when using a DP cable. My "Colorpower Radeon" 7850 has the specs to drive this monitor just fine (DVI: 2560x1600 / VGA: 2048x1536 / HDMI: 4096x2160 @ 30 Hz / Display Port: 4096x2160 @ 60 Hz). I finally found that I had to use the joystick on bottom of screen to manually select DP input, to get it up and running on my video adapter, as it would not auto-sense the signal. After I had resolved the connection interface the screen has worked out well. I have mounted it on my wall which gives me 36"-38" of viewing distance. That really frees up desk space (pic's attached). I have played, Fallout 4 on it and so far it has been smooth enough for me, no artifacts. I did set my game mode refresh rate at 75HZ and have not had it give me any issues. The extra wide screen is nice when running my Video editor program, it gives a longer time line. Overall I'm pleased with the monitor, IPS technology gives great colors & wide angles. I would have liked to have gotten into a 2560x1440 3D monitor but they are too rich for my blood, maybe in 4-5 years and a better 3D GPU. I did use Nvidia 3D many years ago, in the days of tube monitors, it was really cool for Doom & Tome Raider back then. But the active glasses bothered my eyes. I have a Passive 3D Sony TV and I think that is the way to go on 3D, no eye strain. I hope to get passive 3D on my next monitor upgrade, but that will be a few years down the road.Pros: Very good color, IPS, wide viewing angles, reasonable price ($319 and got it in 2 days with free shipping), plenty of adjustments, USB3.0 hub built-in. Mounts on my wall with a cheap Vesa mount, it's rated at 200mmx100mm, but you could easily get 100mmx100mm to work with a little hardware adjustment, see photos. Works fine for me in fallout 4, video editing, MS office & PSP. It makes for a much nicer view for games, I have only played Fallout 3 & 4, with nexus-mods ultra widescreen patch works fine for the most part.Cons: Display Port was NOT detected automatically on my 7850 (I do have the newest Radeon drivers) but HDMI and DVI-D were detected right away. Also the speakers are like all monitor speakers - the manufactures / designers should dump the speaker idea and reduce the unit price because they never work well.I've been using this monitor for several years. In-fact I have two of them. Havent experienced any dead pixels and the color looks great. Its also works great for working at home when you dont have the real-estate for 2 monitors, but just enough for 1 large monitor (this 1 ultrawide physically takes up slightly less space than 2x smaller monitors, plus less cables to deal with)If you are on the fence between getting a 29 inch ultrawide at 2560 x 1080p vs a 34 inch ultrawide at the same resolution, go for the 29 inch.I got the 34 inch and had to return it because everything looked larger due to less pixel density. Which means you will need to place the 34 inch monitor farther away on your desk to make it look normal. a 29 inch should be adequate. If you plan to buy a 34 inch ultra wide, just get the 4k version.Great TV for the bedroom. Connects to YouTube, Amazon and Netflix easily and I have it connected to my Apple TV. Picture is clear and I haven't had any issues. I would purchase again.I couldn't get the moniro to stay on so I finally sent it back but customer service was very helpful. I'd buy from them again and we'll see what I decide after I re-evaluate my 2nd monitor options.I gave an overall 3 because of the problems with the monitor but customer service and the ability for a paid return was a great value in my book.
