I have a pair of Velodyne ULD15-II subwoofers that I've owned for, uh, a really long time. One of the two subs had a failed servo a while back, and was totally rebuilt Velodyne. My second ULD15 was healthy at that the time, but recently its driver's surround failed. It turns out that my first unit's repair had occurred just about a month before Velodyne stopped servicing ULD15's. So as they say... you're on your own, kiddo!I bought this kit. The foam surround they'd supplied as a factory equivalent was a decent fit, diameter-wise, and has a pretty similar geometry (the size of the roll) and a seemingly similar compliance as compared to the one on my factory-refurbished unit.I watched a youtube video or two, more or less followed the included directions, and a few hours later the subwoofer was performing like new again. That was three months ago, and it's still purring (woofing?) like a kitten (doberman?) today. As to the effort required: fairly minimal, but not zero. Difficulty: easy-to-moderate, depending on your skill set. I'm an avid woodworker and a pro-audio guy that happens to have spent a lot of time watching professional speaker reconers working up close... but I'd never actually tried it myself. It was a bit harder than I'd thought, but reasonable; YouTube is a great memory refresher. In my case the old surround's glue had been very liberally applied and had gotten pretty brittle; it seemed very similar to a PVA wood glue. It was a bear to get it (the glue) off of the driver's frame. I used various razor-ish tools, scrapers, etc, etc. to get everything clean. That process was tedious but not very creepy; you have to be pretty ham-fisted to wreck a driver's metal frame with an exacto knife! Getting the surround and the larger chunks of glue off of the woofer cone itself went much faster and was much easier, but was admittedly more nerve-wracking.Once the failed surround was gone, the act of replacing it with the new part was pretty quick and simple. The supplied glue was a type contact cement vs. the oem PVA glue. The alignment and cone centering came out great great, but aesthetically... well, this was my first attempt, contact cement can be rather messy... let's just say that I'm glad that this Velodyne model has a downward-facing driver!Anyway, it was an inexpensive way to fix a nice piece of old gear; there wasn't a lot to lose by trying. Note that if you are squeamish, there are still some woofer reconing shops left in the US that will do this for you for a fairly reasonable fee... once you get the driver to them. Note that in the case of the Velodyne's rather heavy woofer, this kit costs much, much less you'd pay for the round-trip shipping, even before considering the cost of the actual repair.Go for it!
