Economical and environmentally friendly. Save money AND save your speakers.
The most common problem with speakers are rotted, torn or damaged surrounds. The surround is the outer suspension part of the cone. Constant vibration, time and the environment cause foam and rubber surrounds to degrade. Cloth and paper surrounds can become brittle. This causes distortion and poor performance. Luckily, our easy to install repair kits will make your old speakers sound just like new!
I was hesitant to try this myself but after watching the video I felt pretty confident. I'd been hearing some unwanted noise out of my vintage 901's and was pretty sure some of the surrounds were bad. Pulled off the grills and yup, all 18 needed replacing. The repair is quite simple if you arehandy and patient and have a private place to work. I used a small vacuum to clean up the old foam as I loosened it from the cones. The new surrounds fit perfectly once you've removed the old glue. Applying the new glue takes a little practice and I think next time I'll have a few small brushes handy since squeezing it out directly from the tube you will use too much. Mine were version V's and the grills were not difficult to remove.Just make sure you find all the staples and totally remove them. Reinstall using a few Velcro dots and some tacky putty used for hanging posters on walls. I chose the cloth over the foam because it will last forever. I'm 66 and don't want to have to do this again. The sound is now crisp and clear. If I were 20 years younger I might have gone with the foam just get closer to the original sound. But, if I were 20 years younger I'd probably be buying current state of the art stuff. The Bose were rebuilt for my restored analog equipment strictly for listening to vintage vinyl. ROCK ON!!!To be honest, I am watching the auction sites for a second pair of V's for my back channel. If I can find some blown out ones in good cosmetic shape I may restore them with foam surrounds just to satisfy my curiosity.
