Constant vibration, time and the environment cause foam and rubber surrounds to degrade. Cloth and paper surrounds can become brittle. This causes distortion and poor performance. Great product. Subwoofer on my 2002 Avalon was making farting noises, so I knew the foam surround needed to be replaced. Product was easy to work with and repair went smoothly. Sounds good as new and saved me hundreds. Best tips I can give are watch the yt videos on how to remove the speaker from the rear deck and how to replace the surround once you have it out. Basically, take your time and you can finagle the speaker assembly out without having to cut the rear deck. When performing the repair, go slow and you'll be fine. I used a pocket knife to remove the old surround and goo-gone to help remove the old adhesive. I did not use the included glue brush; instead using my fingers like in the video. Buy this! You can do it!
